DTN WEEKLY ROUND UP: The Majority of trade took place on
Tuesday and Wednesday last week with just a little scattered
trade reported on Thursday and Friday. Southern live deals
had a range of $118 to $121, mostly $119 to $120, roughly
steady with the prior week's weighted averages. Northern
dressed deals had a range of $189 to $196, mostly $190 to
$191, also about steady with the previous week's weighted
averages. According to Thursday's Daily Direct Slaughter
Cattle Summary reports the accumulated weekly average price
totals are as follows (the prior week's weighted averages are
listed in parentheses): KS $119.74($119.98); NE $190.79
($190.60); TX $119.69($119.70); IA $190.48($190.72); CO not
available due to confidentiality, but private sources claimed
trades at $120.
According to the Friday Afternoon Daily Direct Slaughter
Cattle reports weekly trade volume totals were as follows: KS
13,602; NE 35,227; TX 7,470; IA 27,398, CO not available due
to confidentiality. Friday's slaughter totaled 119,000 head,
even with the prior week but 5,000 more than the previous
year. Saturday's kill was estimated at 70,000 head, bringing
the weekly total to 665,000 head, 127,000 greater than the
week before, and 20,000 above 2020.
DTN COMMENTS: A typically quiet start to this Monday morning
with both buyers and sellers busy taking inventory. Bids and
asking prices are not established as of yet. Beef cutouts are
expected to be lower with generally light box movement.
For the week ending June 05, 2021, Imported Beef Passed for
Entry in the U.S. totaled 37,206, 97.93% of the previous week
and 93.07% of the 4-week average.
